  14. These are the proposed changes.  Note that backward compatibility with
  15. RIP-I is maintained in all cases.

  17. The 2-byte Must Be Zero (MBZ) field following the family will contain an
  18. AS number.  Details are TBD (when I find someone who understands IGP/EGP
  19. interactions).

  21. Authentication will be supported.  If the first RIP entry in the packet
  22. has a family of -1, then the two bytes following the family will
  23. indicate the type of authentication.  Only plain-text password will be
  24. defined for now.  It will operate as OSPF does and will use the
  25. remaining 16 bytes (or fraction thereof).

  27. The remaining MBZ field will be split into 2 2-byte fields:  MTU and
  28. linkspeed.  These will NOT be used for routing; just for information by
  29. hosts which snoop RIP packets.  The linkspeed will be encoded, in some
  30. TBD fashion, since 16 bits is insufficient for LAN speeds.

  33. subsuming of routes, and route leaking.
