- o Review Internet Draft
-
-
- These are the proposed changes. Note that backward compatibility with
- RIP-I is maintained in all cases.
-
- The 2-byte Must Be Zero (MBZ) field following the family will contain an
- AS number. Details are TBD (when I find someone who understands IGP/EGP
- interactions).
-
- Authentication will be supported. If the first RIP entry in the packet
- has a family of -1, then the two bytes following the family will
- indicate the type of authentication. Only plain-text password will be
- defined for now. It will operate as OSPF does and will use the
- remaining 16 bytes (or fraction thereof).
-
- The remaining MBZ field will be split into 2 2-byte fields: MTU and
- linkspeed. These will NOT be used for routing; just for information by
- hosts which snoop RIP packets. The linkspeed will be encoded, in some
- TBD fashion, since 16 bits is insufficient for LAN speeds.
-
- There are additional issues which must be discussed. They include:
- subsuming of routes, and route leaking.
